Survey time! Hurray! A music survey. Lovingly stolen from the wonderful meanpony.1. A song whose lyrics you thought you knew in the past, but about which you later learned you were incorrect. I thought the words to "Sleeping In" by the Postal Service were, "Don't wake me up when I'm sleeping." I decided to look at the CD booklet yesterday and it just so happens that Ben says, "Don't wake me, I plan on sleeping in." 2. Your least favorite song on one of your favorite albums of all time. I wouldn't call Dear Catastrophe Waitress one of my favorite albums of ALL TIME, but I absolutely can't stand that Belle & Sebastian song "If You Find Yourself Caught In Love." It's like...I don't know. Be preachy, or tell me how to handle my relationships, or be anti-war, or be bouncy and harmonic. But not all at the same time in the same song. I can't take it. 3. A song you like by someone you find physically unattractive or otherwise repellent. That Ryan Adams boy...ugh. But some of his songs? Yay! The cover of "Wonderwall" is especially pretty. 4. Your favorite song with the name of a city in the title or text. Hmm. "Why You'd Want to Live Here" by Death Cab (about Los Angeles), or "In Cairo" by Hot Hot Heat. 5. A song you've listened to repeatedly when you were depressed at some point in your life. Last night I was very sad and had a Postal Service cover of “Against The Odds” by Phil Collins running through my head. Isn’t that odd? And when WOXY died and everything was ick, I was very very sad, and kept listening to “Rain City” by Turin Brakes. It didn’t help. 6. Ever buy an entire album just for one song and wind up disliking everything but that song? Gimme that song. I bought The Calling’s album because my friend Megan told me to, and because I liked that Adrienne song. Uggggh. I listened to it a total of…1/2 a time. 7. Your favorite song that has expletives in it that's not by Liz Phair. Ew. I really wouldn’t have chosen her in the first place, I’m not fond of her at all. But anyway. I like lots of Ben Folds. He like expletives. Well, I thought about the Army, dad said, “Son, you’re fucking high.” 8. A song that sounds as if it's by someone British but isn't. Those Killers and their “Somebody Told Me.” They’re from Las Vegas! It confuses me. 9. A song you like (possibly from your past) that took you forever to finally locate a copy of. It took me forever to find “Simon” by Phantom Planet, but then again, I’d never actually HEARD the song. Just read the lyrics. But I liked those! 10. A song that reminds you of spring but doesn't mention spring at all. “Two Way Monologue” by Sondre Lerche is an awfully springy song. It doesn’t mention spring, does it? It does say that they were chasing rabbits on the hill. 11. A song that sounds to you like being happy feels. “The Frug” by Rilo Kiley, “Do the Panic” by Phantom Planet, or “Hotel Yorba” by the White Stripes. 12. Your favorite song from a non-soundtrack compilation album. I bought the latest Spin magazine for the free “New Music” CD. I really like…nearly every song on it. The two Yeah Yeah Yeahs songs, “Somewhere Only We Know” by Keane, “Beautiful Child” by Rufus Wainwright (although I did already love that song). 13. A song from your past that would be considered politically incorrect now (and possibly was then). Um…this is hard. It brings to mind a reeeeally old children’s book of my mom’s called “Little Black Mambo” or something like that, but that’s a book, isn’t it, not a song. 14. A song sung by an overweight person. “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” sung by Israel Kamakawiwo’ole. Also known to a some as the Mark Greene Hawaiian Song of Doom. 15. A song you actually like by an artist you otherwise hate. I like “Toxic” by Britney Spears. There are reasons! But you don’t care. 16. A song by a band (whose members actually play instruments) that features three or more female members. This is sad…I really can’t think of many. The Like are fun. I think I like The Like. Ben Lee also likes The Like. Also, they’re 17 and about to be very famous, which makes me want to hurt them. But only a little. 17. One of the earliest songs that you can remember listening to. Oh! Got one. I remember seeing Elton John sing “Bennie and the Jets” on the Muppet show when I was, like, five. Does that count? 18. A song you've been mocked by friends for liking. Hmm. Um. That new Hanson song. “Penny and Me.” Hanson is good, dammit. 19. A really good cover version you think no one else has heard. I already mentioned this one. The Postal Service’s cover of “Against the Odds.” Also, The Shin’s cover of the Postal Service’s “We Will Become Silhouettes,” and Iron and Wine’s cover of the Postal Service’s “Such Great Heights.” I’m on a Postal Service kick. Could you tell? 20. A song that has helped cheer you up (or empowered you somehow) after a breakup or otherwise difficult situation. I listened to Rilo Kiley a lot after WOXY went off the air. That’s kind of like a breakup, isn’t it? No? Oh well. But I already said “The Frug!” And that song always makes me happy! Ok, how about “A Better Son/Daughter.” 21. What was the last song you downloaded? “Bridge to Nowhere” by the Like.
