Riverfest

Today was Riverfest. Did I tell you about Riverfest last year? It was haahrible. Well...you know how you say things are haahrible (or horrible, which I suppose is what most people say), and they weren't really? When you think about it? It was hilarious.

Riverfest is the county's annual gathering of old ladies who make birdhouses, old ladies who sell god books, old ladies who make wreaths, old ladies who sell baked goods, podunks who buy these things, and small children. It's hot, sticky, and a bit frightening. When we danced last year, we all almost died in a tragic collapsing stage accident.

Here's a short lesson in geometry and common sense: when building a stage that will be danced on by as many as 20 girls, all jumping and landing and moving at the same time, use triangles. Do not make it four feet tall. Do not make it in two unattached halves. Do not use Astroturf.

I swear, it was like trying to dance on a moving bus without anything to hold onto. So of course we were all laughing through the whole dance. Yay for professionalism.

This year it was better. The stage was not homemade, and for the most part it refrained from moving with a mind of its own. It's just that, well, Amanda fell on her ass. But that's ok. We did better.

Now, the fun part was the jumbee bunching. (Roughly translated from dyslexic-Haley-speak, bungee jumping.) It was one of those big contraptions with four different harnesses and inflated trampolines. The guy pulled my legs and held on, flying up into the air with me, and then pulled me down again and let go. It felt like I was going to fly straight out of the thing and land in the petting zoo. Of course, he was too busy having a slumber party on one of the trampolines with Carly, Amanda, and Carly's friend Stephanie to worry about us much.

It was fun. Now I'm tired and nauseous (though that might just be from the fat old hicks who were laughing about our non-existent tutus and yelling "Don't let GIRull beat you" at their sons in the obstacle course), and it's raining.

Nap time!
